MESSAGE TO YEAR 11 2012 FROM MRS MILLER

HELLO YEAR 11!!!

I know I don't say it very often, but I am really proud of the effort you have been putting since I came back. I know it has taken some longer than others to get going but I think you are all finally getting there and we should see some fantastic folders at the end of it. I would ideally like to have a party for our class in the last week, so we can finally chill out and enjoy one another's company before your imminent exams. However I can't really do this if everyone still has to catch up! So please, please, please for your own sake get everything completed over Easter. If you don't then we have problems. You should be spending the last 3 weeks improving our work to ensure you get a pass, merit or distinction.

The first thing you need to do, before you start any work is the following:

1. Every time you finish a piece of work you MUST print it off!
2. Go through each assignment brief and tick off what you have done.
3. Begin completing your tasks. Do one at a time until it has been completed.
4. Once completed print if off and put in folder.
5. Now cross it off the list on the assignment brief.

Once all tasks have been completed go through every booklet and make sure everything has been filled in correctly. Because there are lots of gaps in the booklets!

You have exactly 9 hours left with me, you'll be pleased to hear.

I am sorry if at times I appear to be harsh, but please remember all I want for you is the very best and for you to leave college with some fantastic qualifications behind you. Although most of you are ready to leave now, try and enjoy your last few weeks.

You are old enough now to know you need to work until the coursework is done, as hard as it may be for some of you, you are all very capable to do this and do it well!

If you need to contact me....then you can email me!

Remember you can do it!

Unit 7 - Advertising

For this unit you need to complete-
  • This booklet does not include any images because it would not save to the blog with the pictures on it. Therefore you need to make sure you have copies of the adverts you are analysing in your folder if you have to use this booklet. REMEMBER: everything must be filled in!!!!
  • Narrative Structure PowerPoint
  • This PP will help you fill in some of the gaps within the booklet.
  • comparing 2 adverts - you have to fill in the two grids in the booklet and follow the essay plan in the booklet to write this up.
  • Mood board - showing a variety of different forms of adverts - i.e. banner ad, billboard etc...
  • You need to create a questionnaire asking your target audience about their buying habits of your product choice (trainers, perfume). Put the answers into graphs and write up / evaluate the data.
  • Create 3 different plans of an advertising campaign of your chosen product.
  • From your plans choose which marketing strategy you will go for and then create a final version of it on Photoshop - making a print ad, billboard and banner ad.
  • Evaluate your print advert - the evaluation essay plan is in the booklet, but use the analysis grid again to help you! remember to discuss the shots used, who is being represented, the persuasive techniques that are being used!

UNIT 6 - Print

You have worked with Mr Bigland on this unit, however I have added some documents below to help you do the tasks.
  1. Produce a final version of your magazine front cover and contents page.

Unit 4 - chase sequence

For this unit you need to -

  • Mood board - images of different chase sequences - like James Bond/Zorro/Hot Fuzz.
  • Chase sequence booklet
  • Below is a list of paperwork you need to complete it within the role you choose!

    1. ARE YOU THE PRODUCER OR DIRECTOR - CHOOSE AND COMPLETE THE PAPERWORK BELOW : CLICK ON THE LINKS IN RED TO ACCESS THE TEMPLATES...EACH TEMPLATE HAS AN EXAMPLE ON THE FIRST PAGE!

Producer MUST COMPLETE the following documents to show the PRE-PRODUCTION PROCESS!

(Draw a sketch of the location on this sheet)

Director MUST COMPLETE the following documents

You also have to document your roles during the
    PRODUCTION PROCESS!

    Producer

    • Log the shots as they are being filmed, ask the director to shout out what camera shots they are using and write them down with the Time codes (what time the shot starts and ends). If you are doing this after you have filmed you need to look through your original tape and write down a list of the shots as they appear.

    • Write down how you briefed the actors and told them what to do in order to ensure the shoot went well. (this can be used as part of your evaluation too)

    Director

    • Operate the camera and film! Using the storyboard!

    • Make sure the sound is working after the first shot, wind it back and listen to it.

You also have to document your roles during the POST PRODUCTION PROCESS!

    Producer

    • Edit the footage - this needs to be completed in L12 so we'll do this after school.

    Director

    • Complete a paper edit, from the footage log. Using this you can edit your footage on paper.

    • Find the music and edit it together on your chase sequence. This needs to be the last part of the editing process. Because if you add another shot the music will go out of sink!

    • If you have completed filming and editing, you can complete an evaluation of the whole filming process! click on the following link for the evaluation form!

Unit 3 - Audience

For this unit you need to complete the following:
  • Booklet

  • Assessment task 1 - this is at the back of the booklet - read through the marking criteria to see exactly what you need to include in order to get a pass/merit/distinction.
  • Assessment Task - notes

Unit 2 - Research

Primary research

  • An explanation of the types of children's/teen's programmes that we watched and why? These included, a number of different programmes. If you can't remember then you need to watch at least 5 childrens/teen programmes and explain what types of things were featured in the programmes? Why did we look at them?

  • A PowerPoint about your own children's programme idea! If you worked in a group and don't have a copy - GET ONE PRINTED OFF!

  • A questionnaire with at least 10 different question types based on your programme idea/PowerPoint. This is aimed at a focus group, of adults with children who your programme is aimed at. Print off 5 copies of this, they must be completed by the parents of your target market. Now analyse the questionnaire, go through each question. E.g. Question 1 - 3 out of 5 parents said their children would watch this programme. This research tells me that my programme would be successful as it would gain an audience.

Secondary research

  • The commissioning process document. This is an explanation of what the commissioning process is...click on the following link for guidance on creating this document.
Quantitative research

  • Produce a graph with the ratings of at least 4 children's programmes. Analyse the data, and explain why you think one programme is more popular than the others. It is also important to write about why a programme has the least ratings? Think about the target market, the time of day it appears, merchandise, how long has it been going? etc...
  • With regards to the quantitative research on kids TV, you need to click on the following link and follow the instructions - READ THE ARTICLE IN FULL BEFORE YOU ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS! It is easy enough to understand, you just need to get on with it!

Qualitative research

  • Create a general questionnaire about the viewing habits, programme types, lifestyle of your target market. You need to write at least 10 questions. Print off 5 copies and get them completed by parents of your target market! Now analyse the responses. E.g. Question 1. 5 out of 5 parents said their children watched television between 4pm and 6pm in the evening. Therefore my programme would be aired at ......... on ............
Research

  • Create a document explaining what primary, secondary, qualitative and quantitative research means. You need to explain each one, write about the good and bad things about each (pro and con), then give an example of what you have done.
  • A mood board of different teen programmes, write down underneath the images the channel, time of day they are on, and what makes them successful - characters/setting/narrative/music etc...
